NCAA Basketball Picks: California vs. Arizona

The Wildcats are holding some heavy chalk tonight for their home game against California. Check out why we think the best value may lie with the visiting Golden Bears.

California vs. Arizona

Odds Overview

Arizona's success at home this season is one reason why they're favored by 13.5 points at most of the college basketball betting sites.

Image previewNeither team has really set the world on fire in terms of ATS performance however. The Wildcats are 10-10 ATS on the year, while the Golden Bears are a poor 7-13 against the spread.

California Golden Bears

Inconsistency has been an issue for the Golden Bears, especially since conference play started. They've failed to win more than two games in a row so far in Pac-12 action.

A few nights ago California went down to the wire on the road versus Arizona State, only to lose 66-62. If you backed the Golden Bears, it was a horrible beat, considering they came in as the 3.5-point pups in the college basketball odds.

Justin Cobbs, Allen Crabbe and Tyrone Wallace did their best to lead the comeback, but it just wasn't enough. Those three combined for 45 points and 19 rebounds in the loss.

The Golden Bears really only had themselves to blame. They had 18 turnovers on the night and connected on just 57.1 percent of their free throws. It didn't help that California got basically nothing out of their bench either.

Lately, the road hasn't been kind to the Golden Bears whatsoever. They will come into tonight's game holding a 3-8 ATS record over their last 11 matchups away from home.

Arizona Wildcats

The wins continue to pile up for the Wildcats, who are quietly 20-2 SU on the season. Their two losses came at home to UCLA and on the road against Oregon.

The last time Arizona was in action was on Wednesday, when they played host to Stanford and won 73-66. The Cardinal actually held the lead for a good portion of the game, but couldn't hold down the Wildcats in the closing stages.

Arizona's offense really kicked it into gear in the second half, scoring 47 points. Mark Lyons and Solomon Hill led the charge, recording 48 points on 16-of-26 shooting between them. Lyons added six dimes, while Hill pulled down six boards.

Kevin Parrom made some things happen off the bench, but it was essentially a two-man show for Arizona. No other Wildcat scored in double figures in the victory.

Although they won straight up, the Wildcats weren't able to cover (-9.5) and they're now just 3-8 ATS over their last 11 games overall. They've also covered in only one of their previous six contests at home.

College Basketball Pick

Despite the fact the Wildcats are hard to beat at home, we consider this line to be too high. The Golden Bears have enough talent to hang around and make a game of this in our estimation.

Crabbe and Cobbs form one of the Pac-12's most deadly backcourts and that's going to come in handy against Lyons and company ? if they can get some shots to hit early on, that should help keep Mike Montgomery's team competitive.

Having already beaten Oregon and giving good tests to the likes of UNLV, Arizona State and Stanford, we will be selecting California to show up again and beat the NCAAB Odds, coming through against the spread. Let's back the Golden Bears with our sports picks tonight.
