As of this morning, more than 36,000,000 people have watched Ken Block?s Gymkhana Five: Ultimate Urban Playground; San Francisco. To celebrate, Block and company has released a behind-the-scenes look at how Gymkhana Five was made. Also hopping on the Gymkhana bandwagon is Ford, which has just released Snowkhana One ? a holiday-themed tribute to Mr. Block and his famous videos.
The extra Gymkhana Five footage gives us a good look at all the hard work that went into making the latest Gymkhana film in San Francisco. As the video points out, one of the biggest and most dangerous challenges Block faced was jumping his Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V. on Russian Hill, overlooking Alcatraz. The video?s creative director explains that if Block goes too slowly he?ll land on top of the hill?s crest, potentially ruining his car. If Block goes too fast, however, he?ll overshoot the jump by about 60 feet, leaving him a small margin of error.
Snowkhana One is decidedly less dangerous. Shot by Ford of Europe ?in an epic use of stuff found in garage,? Snowkhana One features a toy Ford Fiesta being drifted around a winter wonderland while escaping the police, storm troopers, and a man-eating Wampa.
