Gulf Air's inaugural flight to Rome takes-off
Commenting on the launch of Gulf Air's 52nd destination, 10th European destination, and second Italian destination, Mr. Majali commented, "I am delighted that we are now connecting Rome and Bahrain directly four times a week. By launching services to Rome, we are expanding our Italian operations after Milan, which we launched in March this year and has proved to be very successful. Now with the addition of Rome, we are connecting the Northern and South Central parts of Italy to the Middle East."
He continued "Expanding into Europe is part of the strategy we rolled out last year. Launching Rome will offer our customers the best network of destinations through the fastest hub in the region and the most competitive fares in the market today."
"We've received positive feedback on Milan from our customers, and we trust that Rome will see the same success, and that our passengers will get to enjoy everything this great city has to offer" Mr. Majali concluded.
The official delegation from Gulf Air was met at Rome's Fiumicino Airport by representatives of Aeroporti di Roma and the media. Welcoming Gulf Air to Rome, Aeroporti di Roma Director of Aviation Mr. Elia Pistola commented, "We are thrilled to welcome Gulf Air's inaugural flight to Rome. We see this as an opportunity for the people of Bahrain and Italy to explore the two countries, invest in potential businesses, and strengthen cultural and social ties linking the two nations. We take pride in being the only European country with two Gulf Air destinations, and we hope this leads to opening more Italian routes for the carrier in the future."
Rome has always been a popular destination among tourists for its history and heritage besides being a shopping destination, not to mention thousands of religious travelers visiting the Vatican City. The economy of Rome is characterized by commercial activities especially tourism-related, banking and fashion.
The direct Rome flights provide the best two-way connectivity to destinations in the GCC, Indian sub-continent, and the Far East via its efficient Bahrain hub.
Non-stop flights to Rome will depart from Bahrain every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, leaving at 2:00 am. Gulf Air will operate an A320.
To celebrate the launch of Rome, special Rome inaugural fares start at BD 130 excluding taxes. The airline is also offering its Falconflyer loyalty programme members double miles for the new route for two months starting from the inaugural date (30 November).

Air Fail
American Airlines? parent company, AMR Corporation, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, surprising exactly no one. A major corporate bankruptcy is normally a bit of a shock, but there?s nothing shocking about bankruptcy in the American passenger air business, where filings are way more common than crashes. Frontier Airlines filed in 2008, Delta and Northwest both filed in 2005 (and later merged), and United and U.S. Airways filed in 2002 and then again in 2004. TWA went down in 2001 as part of an acquisition by the now-bankrupt American Airlines. Pan Am, of course, went out of business entirely 10 years before that, only to re-emerge as a short-lived television show about the glories of air travel in the era before constant bankruptcy. And those are only the big ones. All told there have been 189 airline bankruptcy filings in America since 1990. Why?

Laugh-In's Alan Sues Dies at 85 (omg!)
Laugh-In regular Alan Sues has died. He was 85.
Sues died Thursday night while watching television at his home in West Hollywood, his longtime friend Michael Gregg Michaud told the Los Angeles Times.
"He had been in failing health the last couple of years, but it was nothing you could put your finger on; just old age," Michaud said. "Mentally, he was funny and 'on' as usual. He was a delightfully funny man, with a wonderful career that spanned six decades."

Born and raised in California, Sues studied theater and made his Broadway debut in Elia Kazan's Tea and Sympathy in 1953. He then joined the improv group The Mad Show, which led to his Laugh-In casting.
During his run on the show from 1968 to 1972, Sues was noted for play loud, flamboyant and clownish characters, including Big Al, an effeminate sportscaster obsessed with ringing a bell, and Uncle Al the Kiddies' Pal, an unendingly drunk children's entertainer.
Outside of Laugh-In, Sues appeared in such TV shows as?The Wild, Wild West?and?The Twilight Zone, in the memorable episode "The Masks," in which a wealthy old man forces his greedy heirs to wear masks at a party or else be cut off from their inheritance.

In the '90s, Sues toured for four years with Singin' in the Rain, playing the Elocution Instructor.
Sues is survived by his ex-wife, Phyllis Sues, to whom he was married from 1953 to 1958.

NEW YORK - Major League Soccer's 2012 season will open March 10 with six games, and the expansion Montreal Impact will play their first MLS home game at Olympic Stadium on March 17.
The league announced the dates of home openers Tuesday without identifying opponents. Colorado, D.C. United, Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle and Vancouver will be home on opening day, Chivas USA and Dallas will be home on March 11, and Portland will open the following day.
Kansas City and Salt Lake will open at home along with Montreal on March 17, followed by Philadelphia (March 18), Chicago, Columbus, New England and Toronto (March 24) and New York (March 25).
Houston, which is moving into a new stadium, opens at home on May 12.
Each team will play 34 games as part of an unbalanced league schedule.
